UNICEF Launches Kit To Help Young Children Caught In Emergencies

A new kit to help meet the developmental needs of young children affected by emergencies was launched in Geneva by UNICEF Executive Director, Ann M. Veneman. "The Early Childhood Development Kit is a tool for young children displaced or affected by war and natural disasters," said Veneman at today's official launch in Geneva. "It is the first of its kind within the humanitarian community.

Gefitinib Receives European Licence For The Treatment Of Lung Cancer For Patients With EGFR Activating Mutation Positive Tumours

AstraZeneca announced that it has received a licence by the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) for its oral targeted anti-cancer drug, gefitinib, for EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase) activating mutation positive patients with Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). NSCLC is the most common type of lung cancer and accounts for 80% of all lung cancer cases.

Following yesterday's police operation at a makeshift camp for migrants in Patras and the subsequent fire that broke out, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) expresses concern for the medical and humanitarian condition of the migrants and asylum seekers who were left homeless, as well as those who were arrested. MSF urges authorities to ensure humane living conditions and the provision of medical assistance to this population.
